Foxboro® Launches RTT15S Optical Temperature Transmitter

Foxboro® Launches RTT15S Optical Temperature Transmitter

FOXBORO, Mass., October – 2016 — Schneider Electric has launched Foxboro® RTT15S Optical Temperature Transmitters, a new family of temperature transmitters that features a large, backlit LCD display with optical configuration buttons – operable through the glass cover of the unit’s explosion-proof housing – that enable users to locally configure and operate the transmitter even in hazardous locations without the need for process shutdown.

Designed to serve a wide range of temperature applications, Model RTT15S temperature transmitters are microprocessor controlled, use the HART® version 5 or 7 communication protocols, and can receive input signals from thermocouples, resistance temperature detectors (RTDs), and ohm or millivolt sources. Their microprocessor-based electronics minimize ambient temperature effects while delivering high accuracy, repeatability, and linearization of input signals. An advanced automatic calibration routine continuously checks zero and full-scale outputs of these transmitters against factory-calibrated voltage signals stored in non-volatile memory. If needed, adjustments are made automatically without interrupting transmitter output signals.

In addition to three configuration buttons, the RTT15S optional LCD display offers a selectable red or white backlight, five lines of text or symbols, configurable bar graphs, intuitive menus, and scrolling help text in seven major languages – English, German, Spanish, French, Italian, Swedish, and Danish. The configurable backlight can be programmed to change colors or flash upon diagnostic error detection. In applications where the optional LCD display and explosion-proof housing are not required, the RTT15S is available as a basic module that can be configured remotely using PC-based Device Type Manager (DTM) software or a handheld controller.

Other user-configurable features on the RTT15S family include low and high out-of-range values (between 3.5 and 23 mA); sensor error detection, with output values based on shorted and open sensor conditions; and direct selection of error detection using NAMUR 43 values. These features, together with a range of transmitter packages, high-durability sensors, and other options, make the RTT15S easy to mount, install, configure, and operate reliably for a long life.

“Our Accutech line was developed to make it easier for companies to reliably collect process data that until now has been too difficult or expensive to obtain due to challenges with distance, the environment, and the absence of power,” said Stephen Goodman, Accutech product manager at Foxboro. “Accutech instruments are easy to use, fast to connect and network, and ruggedized for extended service even in the toughest environments.”

Within the local instrument networks, Accutech field devices can transmit signals up to 3,000 feet (approx. 1,000 m), and can connect, configure, and communicate quickly using 900 MHz or 2.4 GHz license-free spectrum. For instrument networks spanning larger areas, Accutech instruments can be optionally equipped with extended-reach Trio data radios that support 256-bit AES-data encryption.

A single Accutech base radio can report data from a local network of up to 100 field instruments. Once in place and powered up, push-button configuration and link-testing features enable the base radio to establish network connectivity with powered instruments quickly. Up to 256 base radios can coexist for maximum scalability.

The Accutech instrument line includes a complete range of devices for level, flow, pressure, temperature, and control applications. Each Accutech field instrument incorporates proven Foxboro technology and is built for durability and long-term operation in hostile environments, with NEMA4X packaging and CSA Class1, Div 1 and ATEX/IECEx (-ai and –d) certifications. All Accutech field units are equipped with field-replaceable, lithium-thionyl batteries that offer up to 10 years of service.
